Notes on maps and walking.

It is not difficult to follow the walks which will be given in this series of walks in our area; the directions / instructions are all numbered and the corresponding numbers are given on the sketch maps. However in use, it is important to read through the instructions for each section before walking it, this greatly reduces the chances of getting lost. But it is possible to get a lot more pleasure from a walk by using the sketch map in conjunction with an Ordnance Survey map. For this area “our” map is the OS Explorer 243; technically this is a ‘one to twenty five thousand’ scale; for most of us this is two and a half inches to the mile.
